Parkwoods United Church is about many things, but essentially, it is about its people and what they do to the Glory of God. There is always that sense of "family" and the outreach in the local community and beyond. Many of the activities and services revolve around this outreach. There is a sense that Parkwoods’ people work together, each person using his or her talents to contribute to this sense of mission.
As a cornerstone in the Don Mills community, we continue our vision as a vibrant and multicultural congregation. Parkwoods United Church is blessed to have approximately 27% within the multicultural group. In addition, we have demonstrated our leadership and responsiveness as a “self standing” lay congregation reaching new links in our multi-cultural community, and applying diverse ways of ministering with sensitivity and creativity. As members and adherents of Parkwoods United Church, we are proud of our accomplishments!
We strive in maintaining a focused balance between excellence in worship, music and Christian Development programs and compassion in outreach. Our Sunday School has experienced a steady increase in attendance with new leaders and significantly enhanced the number of youth participants in the Voices of Youth (VOY) programs. Our VOY has been enriched with music, dramas and a broad spectrum of development and social activities.
Our outreach programs are extensive with participation reflective of our diverse community and membership; ESL, Tai Chi, Gospel Concerts, Friday Night movies, Loaves and Fishes, Scouts. A vital link in our Church life continues to be the work of the United Church Women units, witnessed in all they support at Parkwoods and for the greater work of the Church.
Financially, Parkwoods has been able to increase its revenues since year 2000 by more than 15%, and we are encouraged by our continued ability to meet ongoing expense challenges. We have approximately 280 members, in excess of 50 adherents and continue to attract new faces, weekly.
Parkwoods has been blessed with the stability and commitment of enthusiastic staff members and dynamic ministry, over the past years. Effective August 1, 2005, Parkwoods United Church, joyously welcomed the Reverend Sarah Fanning as its new full time Minister.
