Youth Group Update

The Parkwoods Youth Group is excited about its launch of an exciting community Outreach program! Since the beginning of the year about 14 of us have been meeting almost every Sunday and this year we've decided, as a group, to focus on Outreach. One of our areas of interest is an organization called Sleeping Children Around the World or SCAW. SCAW provides bed kits for children in underdeveloped countries. Each bed kit contains a mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, clothes, a towel and school supplies. This organization operates on donations. Each 30 dollars will buy one bed kit. 100% of the donations go to the organization and any administrative costs are covered by a fund left for SCAW by Murray Dryden, the founder of SCAW, along with his wife Margaret.

Murray Dryden started this organization because during the Depression of the 1930's, as he traveled east from Manitoba, looking for work he often didn't have a bed to sleep in. He felt that "the comfort of a bed is a basic right of every child" and that "there is nothing more peaceful than a sleeping child." We, the Youth Group, have been collecting our offering money to buy a bed kit and soon we will have enough. About 5 or 6 months after a donation is made, a picture is sent to the donor. We hope to put any pictures we do receive on display for you.
